Easiest 3 Ingredient Chocolate Cake

This is the easiest chocolate cake recipe ever. It is so good you won’t believe that it only requires 3 ingredients!

3 ingredient chocolate cake with homemade frostingThe prepping time in itself is just five minutes, so it’s perfect for a last minute dessert or birthday party. I also think it’s a great Mother’s Day treat that kids can easily make for Mom with adult supervision. You do need a grown up to help with the food processor and the oven, but children can help pour the batter or even press the food processor pulse button.

Until I made this 3 ingredient chocolate cake recipe, I had never thought of using crushed cookies as cake mix. Now that I tried it, I am considering using the same technique with other types of cookies.

3 ingredient chocolate cake with homemade frostingHow do you know when the cake is done? Simply insert a toothpick in the middle of the cake. When it’s done, it will come out clean.

Makes 1 cake

Prep time: 5 min

Baking time: 23 min

Equipment 

Food Processor or blender 

Silicone Donut Pan Cake 9 inch Mold 

Baking Sheet 

Non stick spray

Ingredients for the cake

  • 4 cups crispy chocolate cookies, 1 10 oz bag 
  • 1 tbsp baking powder 
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk 

Directions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F or 177 C.
  2. Add cookies and baking powder to the food processor or blender. Crush until very fine until they resemble flour or dry cake mix.
  3. Add in 1 ½ cups of whole milk.
  4. Spray your baking pan or silicone mold with non-stick spray. 
  5. Pour the batter into the pan or mold. If using a silicone mold, place onto baking sheet and then into the oven.
  6. Bake for 20-23 mins. 
  7. Allow to cool completely. Place in freezer for 30-45 min BEFORE icing the cake; this cuts down significantly on crumbs.

Delicious homemade frosting

Frosting Ingredients 

  • Powdered or icing sugar 
  • 1 tbsp milk (may be substituted for creamer or water)

Instructions

  • Add ingredients to a bowl.
  • Stir until thick but smooth. If you live in a dry area, you might need an additional tbsp of milk. If you live in a humid area, you might need slightly less than 1 tbsp.
  • Ice the cake with thick but not runny glaze icing. 
  • Add sprinkles for an extra special touch.
