Halloween Luminarias

Aren’t these cereal box luminarias I made with my kids for Halloween the CUTEST?! I love how they turned out and the best part is that they were a spontaneous craft that I came up with using things we already had in the house.

Here’s what you’ll need if you would like to make some yourself…

How To Make Halloween Luminarias Or Paper Lanterns

Supplies:

  • Empty cereal boxes
  • Construction paper
  • Pens, markers or crayons
  • Glue
  • Exacto knife
  • Battery powered tea lights

Directions:

Cereal Box Craft

You are going to start off by covering your empty cereal box with construction paper. For the “pumpkin” one we used orange. To get the sizing right, you can simply trace each side of the box you want to cover on the construction paper and then cut.  Attach the construction paper to the box using glue. Let the glue set for a bit.

Once the construction paper feels like it is securely attached to the box and the glue has dried enough to let you draw on the construction paper, draw a face on one of the wide sides of your box.

Carve the face out using an exacto knife. This part should be done by an adult.

Easy Halloween Craft

Flip your box over and cut a little flap that you can use to put a battery operated tea light inside the box. Please do not use anything with an actual flame.

Halloween Luminaries

Use your imagination and create all sorts of critters like pumpkins, ghosts, kitties, witches or Frankensteins.
