The Mandalorian On Disney Plus- 5 Reasons Star Wars Fans Cannot Wait
Star Wars fans finally got a first look at the trailer during Star Wars Celebration in Chicago for The Mandalorian on Disney Plus. A standing ovation shows they weren’t disappointed.
The Mandalorian on Disney Plus featurette presented by Executive Producer and writer Jon Favreau and director Dave Filoni was met with cheers and applause by those who attended the panel. Fans on the live stream, however, were upset they couldn’t get the first look. For a great recap, read the article on Gizmodo..
Not only is The Mandalorian the first live-action Star Wars series, but it also premieres on Disney Plus on November 12. The streaming service’s monthly subscription will be available for $6.99, with annual subscriptions costing $69.99. The rollout in Europe, Latin America, and Asia will be over the next three years. Latin America is slated for launch in 2021 according to a recent investor presentation.
In the meantime, The Mandalorian‘s showrunner Jon Favreau continues to put the finishing touches on the project. “We’re coloring the missing tiles,” said Favreau.
The series stars Pedro Pascal, as well as Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, and Werner Herzog. It’s a diverse cast and I couldn’t be happier to see Chilean-American actor Pascal take the lead and be one of the handful of Latinos that are a part of the Star Wars story. When asked who or what The Mandalorian is, Pascal seemed wary of revealing too much, but he did say “he’s a badass!”

The Mandalorian on Disney Plus: 5 reasons to be excited
- It is the first Star Wars live-action series. It will also be one of the stars of Disney Plus.
- The Mandalorian seems like a classic Star Wars story but modern as well. The featurette at Star Wars Celebration started at a cantina, full of creatures, bounty hunters, and droids, always surrounded by a mysterious aura. The panel referenced samurais and Sergio Leone’s westerns as inspirations, while Pedro Pascal said he looked to Clint Eastwood’s characters to play The Mandalorian.
- The special effects look amazing. The featurette showed how much attention was paid to every detail. Favreau also explained how the original Star Wars trilogy’s techniques were used to achieve that classic look. Check out the video I live-tweeted during the panel.

- There’s a strong female character. Yes, I’m well aware this is not news in the Star Wars universe, but I never take it for granted. In The Mandalorian, Gina Carano did many of her own action scenes. She described the character, Cara Dune, as “ex-Rebel shock trooper…having some trouble reintegrating myself into society.” That left many more questions than answers!
- It shows us the world after Return of the Jedi. Favreau explained that The Mandalorian “the idea of that world after Return of the Jedi, and what would happen, and the type of characters that would survive, and what it was like before the New Republic took over.”
Are you excited for Disney Plus and The Mandalorian? It promises to give Star Wars fan a great fix before The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters December 20.
