Perfect for Brunch: Mouthwatering Tres Leches Waffles

Please share!

Tres leches waffles are the perfect brunch food. Tres leches means “three milks” and it’s the name of a traditional Latin American dessert in which cake is soaked in three milks.

Instead of making the traditional recipe, I applied the same concept to my kids’ favorite brunch food. These tres leches waffles are soaked in a syrup made from three different kinds of milk – evaporated cow’s milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk. This makes them super moist and delicious! You can also add blueberries or strawberries to your waffles for an extra colorful and nutritious breakfast.

If you are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and need an original take on a classic recipe, these tres leches waffles will delight everybody! The syrup is so good I could devour it on its own. You could also add it on top of pound cake or crepes.

Prefer to see how to make this recipe than simply reading it? I made a video in case it makes it easier to follow the steps to make these mouthwatering tres leches waffles.

Tips to make the best waffles

  • Do not to over mix the batter before putting it on a hot iron; this will dry out your waffle faster than you might. You want it to be crispy!
  • Also, use an ice cream scoop to measure out how much waffle batter you will need for one waffle, then pour it onto the waffle maker. Make sure to lower the waffle maker lid down until it is fully closed and let cook for a couple of minutes.
  • Do not leave unattended for too long because depending on how much batter you use, waffles might brown quickly.
