The Best Baked Brie with Puff Pastry
Baked Brie with Puff Pastry brings a new definition to the world decedent. The brie becomes warm and melty as it’s baked in its puff pastry prison, and the pastry crisps up wonderfully, too. It’s a lovely dinner party hors d’oeuvre that can be made ahead and frozen to reheat at the last minute.
The melted brie makes a lovely sauce; I like to eat this with grapes and apple slices. But you could also use bread or even crostini. No matter what you choose to eat with this baked brie recipe you are going to love it.
HOW IS BRIE MADE?
Brie is a soft, creamy cheese with an edible white rind. It gets its mild taste from the bacteria that forms on it during ripening. Brie has been made in Central France since the 8th century and was traditionally made in farmhouses, away from any other buildings. Nowadays brie is still very popular and widely available.
WHAT DOES BRIE TASTE LIKE?
Brie is a mild cheese with a slightly sweet taste. It also smells a bit like mushrooms. Brie is creamy and oh so delicious. If you’ve never tried it before this is the perfect recipe for you to try it with!
HOW TO SERVE BAKED BRIE WITH PUFF PASTRY?
I love to serve this on a big platter and let all my party guests dig in. Sometimes I garnish the top with some grapes and slices of apple or pear, but it’s also great as is. You can also serve it on crostini which is a nice alternative.

Baked Brie with Puff Pastry may be prepared ahead and frozen before baking. Make sure the cheese is wrapped tightly and placed in an airtight, freezer-safe container. Thaw at room temperature for 4 hours or overnight in the refrigerator before baking as directed.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BAKED PUFF PASTRY AND PIE CRUST?
Puff pastry is a form of laminated dough. Layers of very cold butter are placed between sheets of pastry dough, then the dough is folded and rolled several times before being chilled again to allow the butter to solidify. When the pastry bakes, steam from the butter puffs up layers of dough which creates separate thin sheets.
Pie crust however is a thin crust that is used in baking that is usually only rolled once and not typically chilled more than once. This process causes the pie crust to not puff up, but to stay thin and flat when baked.
So, the main difference between the two is that pie crust does not puff up, and puff pastry just like the name expands to be fluffy and flaky.
HOW LONG CAN I STORE LEFTOVER BAKED BRIE?
Baked Brie with Puff Pastry can be stored in an airtight container once cooled to room temperature. Refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze per the directions above.
HOW CAN REHEAT BAKED BRIE WITH PUFF PASTRY?
To reheat baked brie with puff pastry, remove the foil and plastic wrap. Reheat at 325°F for 8-10 minutes or until warmed through. Start checking your baked brie for warmth at the 8 minutes to make sure that it doesn’t burn while reheating.

HOW TO MAKE BAKED BRIE WITH PUFF PASTRY
Preheat the oven to 425 F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set it aside. Then, make an egg wash by mixing one egg yolk with one tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Set aside.
If you have a bigger cheese wheel, roll the puff pastry out to ensure it is wide enough to fold over and fully cover the brie. Put the puff pastry sheet on the tray lined with parchment paper. Place the brie wheel in the center of the puff pastry and drizzle two tablespoons of honey on top.
Grab all corners of puff pastry and twist into a knot. Lightly push the knot together and brush the top with egg wash. It will help keep the pastry together. Bake for about 25 minutes until it is nicely browned.
Serve fresh as an appetizer on its own or on a platter with fresh apple slices, grapes, and crackers. Enjoy!
