What is a bundtwich?

Recipe: Homemade Bundtwich Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 ¼ cups water (100 to 110 degrees F), divided
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons yeast
- 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten (optional) for the egg wash
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in ¼ cup warm water. Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes, allowing the yeast to activate.
- Stir the salt into the flour, then add the flour to the mixing bowl. Beat the mixture until the ingredients are well combined, scraping down the sides as needed. Switch to a dough hook attachment and knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Grease a bowl with cooking spray or oil and place the dough inside, turning it once to coat it with the grease. Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise in a draft-free location for approximately 45 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle, with the long side matching the length needed to fit your bundt pan.
- Starting from one long side of the rectangle, tightly roll the dough to the other side, sealing it by pinching the edges together as you would with a jelly roll.
- Spritz a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray, ensuring all the crevices are well coated. Carefully transfer the rolled dough to the prepared bundt pan, making sure the edges meet and are secured.
- Cover the bundt pan with a damp towel or plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) while the dough continues to rise.
- Lightly brush the dough with the beaten egg if desired, which will give it a golden and shiny appearance after baking.
- Bake the bundtwich bread dough for 35 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of your bundt pan. The bread is done when it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Once baked, carefully remove the bundtwich bread from the pan and transfer it to a wire rack to cool.
- Slice the bread in half horizontally, creating a top and bottom bun for your sandwich.
