Easy no yeast bread recipe
You can still make bread at home if you don’t have yeast. It’s not only easy but delicious, too. With yeast being hard to find in stores during the pandemic, I’ve been looking for a bread recipe that can be made with baking powder.
This soda bread is a simpler take on the traditional Irish Soda bread recipes, which require buttermilk. Even though this bread does not brown even after it’s fully cooked, it is truly delicious. My kids love it with sliced cheese and tomato. I add a little olive oil and basil for extra flavor.
No Yeast Soda Bread
Prep time: 10 min
Baking time: 35 min
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon table salt
- 1 1/3 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in large bowl.
- Mix well.
- Add in water and vegetable oil.
- Mix by hand or in stand mixer for 2-3 minutes.
- Use your hands to knead 3-5 times.
- Grease cookie sheet or baking stone
- Shape dough into round loaf about 1.5 inches thick.
- Score the top of the dough with a knife.
- Place in oven and bake 35-40 minutes.
- Remove from oven and flick the bottom of bread. Bread will sound hollow when fully baked. Because this bread has no yeast, it will not brown like regular bread.
- Cool completely on cooling rack.
- Once cool, slice, and serve.
